How Our Calorie and Nutrition Calculator Works
Our recipe nutrition calculator helps you understand the nutritional content of your meals by breaking down each ingredient and calculating totals based on standard nutritional values.
Calculation Methodology
For each ingredient, we calculate nutritional values using this formula:
Calories per ingredient = (amount_in_grams / 100) × calories_per_100g
Example: 200g chicken breast @ 165 kcal/100g
Calculation: (200 / 100) × 165 = 330 kcal
We then sum all ingredients to get the recipe total:
Total calories = sum(calories_per_ingredient)
Finally, we divide by servings to get per-serving values:
Per-serving calories = Total calories / servings
Full recipe example:
- Chicken breast: 200g @ 165 kcal/100g = 330 kcal
- Brown rice: 150g @ 111 kcal/100g = 166.5 kcal
- Broccoli: 100g @ 34 kcal/100g = 34 kcal
- Total = 530.5 kcal
- For 2 servings: 265.25 kcal per serving
