How Fantasy Football Trade Values Are Calculated
Our fantasy football trade calculator uses a sophisticated algorithm that considers multiple factors to determine player value:
1. Projected Points Basis
The foundation of our calculation is projected fantasy points for the season. We adjust these projections based on:
- Scoring format: PPR, Half-PPR, or Standard scoring
- Positional scarcity: RB and WR values differ based on roster construction
- Consistency metrics: Players with lower weekly variance hold more trade value
Base Value Formula:
Player Value = (Projected Points × Position Multiplier × Format Multiplier) × Consistency Factor
Player Value = (Projected Points × Position Multiplier × Format Multiplier) × Consistency Factor
2. Positional Adjustments
Different positions have different values in fantasy football trades:
- Quarterbacks (QB): Lower value in 1QB leagues, premium in Superflex
- Running Backs (RB): Most valuable due to scarcity
- Wide Receivers (WR): Higher value in PPR formats
- Tight Ends (TE): Elite TEs have premium value
3. Worked Example
Let's compare two sample trades:
Trade A: Christian McCaffrey (320 pts) + Stefon Diggs (280 pts)
Trade B: Justin Jefferson (350 pts) + Travis Etienne (260 pts)
Calculation:
McCaffrey: 320 × 1.3 (RB premium) × 1.1 (PPR) = $73
Diggs: 280 × 1.2 (WR) × 1.1 (PPR) = $51
Jefferson: 350 × 1.2 (WR) × 1.1 (PPR) = $77
Etienne: 260 × 1.3 (RB) × 1.1 (PPR) = $46
Result: Team A gains $46 in value
Trade B: Justin Jefferson (350 pts) + Travis Etienne (260 pts)
Calculation:
McCaffrey: 320 × 1.3 (RB premium) × 1.1 (PPR) = $73
Diggs: 280 × 1.2 (WR) × 1.1 (PPR) = $51
Jefferson: 350 × 1.2 (WR) × 1.1 (PPR) = $77
Etienne: 260 × 1.3 (RB) × 1.1 (PPR) = $46
Result: Team A gains $46 in value
